When Chili arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center, her condition shocked us. This five-year-old Sharpei is painfully swollen all over her body, so much so that she cannot see or walk without extreme discomfort.

Chili’s condition is complex – she has likely been without proper care for years, and each ailment will need to be treated separately. Her bloodwork revealed extreme hypothyroidism, and her skin is riddled with bacterial and fungal infections. To make matters worse, Chili was struggling to breathe due to the immense swelling around her mouth and nose. Had her hypothyroidism been left untreated for much longer, this poor girl would have lost her life.

We’ve sent additional bloodwork to Cornell University – a leading veterinary lab – to determine if Chili has any other chronic conditions. In the meantime, we’re treating each symptom with the proper medication – antibiotics, pain medication, antifungals, thyroid medication and antihistamines. She’s also receiving frequent medicated baths to help her skin further recover from the long-term damage it’s sustained. Most importantly, Chili is safe and on the road to recovery.

Please stand alongside us as we help this sweet girl heal by donating in her honor. Right now is an especially impactful time to give thanks to longtime supporter Janice Cooper, who’s generously matching all gifts up to $50,000 through 12/31. That means your gift will go twice as far to support our community’s most vulnerable animals. Thank you for caring about animals like Chili!
