Meet Soteria
Soteria is a pony-sized mare (approximately 13 hands tall) currently available for adoption through the Kentucky Humane Society's Willow Hope Farm. Her story is a unique one, she was captured as a free-roaming, feral horse on a reclaimed mine site in July of 2025, and has been learning about life with humans ever since. With her Kentucky Mountain Horse/Rocky Mountain/Hackney-type build and her unmistakably mellow, almost "Eeyore-like" personality, Soteria has a quiet presence that draws you in. Despite being feral born, she spent much of her early life around a camping area, making her surprisingly desensitized to human activity. She often comes across like a petting zoo pony, calm, approachable, and curious. Soteria is in training and progressing well. She has learned the basics such as leading, picking up her feet, and responding to pressure. While she is generally very mellow, she can occasionally be startled, so it's important to remember her feral roots and give her the time and understanding she deserves. She came from a challenging environment and was bred young, but she has handled her transition with resilience. Ponies from her herd are known to grow into wonderful children's mounts with the right training, and Soteria has the potential to follow that same path. Soteria is up to date on her Coggins, vaccines, dental care, and deworming, and she loads easily onto a trailer when needed. If you're looking for a rewarding project, and the opportunity to build a strong bond, Soteria could be the perfect fit. She's ready for someone to help her continue her journey and discover just how special she can be. |
