Stewart is a 12 year old, Thoroughbred gelding who came to KHS when his owner was moving and needed a soft place for him to land. He was reportedly started under saddle and intended for racing as a younger horse, but the business was bought-out and he was turned out at around 2 years old to be a pasture pet for his new owner at the time. Upon arrival at KHS he was very anxious, but also sometimes pushy. It was clear he just needed to brush up on his education so he was sent for groundwork training and is doing great now. He's remembering how he was described as "a great colt to work with" as a youngster and now is said to be safe enough for an intermediate handler. If you keep in mind that he had a long gap in his handling history and treat him like a young horse when his handling left off, he can actually be a very pleasant guy. He does have fairly severe lordosis, so starting him back under saddle may require some skill in fitting to his back, but many horses with Lordosis actually can have very productive riding careers. He could also be taught to drive.
He is available for adoption immediately as a companion horse or pet while we continue his training. He is currently out for training but can return to our farm for adoption appointments or transport as needed. He is a bit lacking in confidence sometimes, and just needs someone with a level head and good sense of humor to show him the way. If you'd like to see our other horses available for adoption or would like an adoption application, you can find those here: https://www.kyhumane.org/adopt/adoptable-horses
