Dog with Broken Leg Arrives at KHS

Fletcher Update 8/21/2025

Fletcher is on the mend after arriving at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center last week with a severely broken front right leg. Because this was a clean break, we decided to amputate in order to guarantee this sweet boy makes a full recovery. Thankfully, his surgery went smoothly and he seems to be recovering well.

Because Fletcher is an adult, it may take him a little extra time to adjust to life on three legsbut we’ll be by his side until he’s confident, comfortable and ready to find his people. For now, he’s resting and recovering under our vet team’s watchful eye, getting plenty of love and words of encouragement along the way. Donate in Fletcher’s honor to support vulnerable animals like him, who come through our doors in desperate need of tender loving care. Thank you!

Fletcher recently arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center with a severely broken leg. His discomfort was only amplified by an extreme upper respiratory infection that left him coughing, congested and lethargic. While we’ll never know how he ended up in this condition and can’t imagine the pain he’s pushed through, we’re grateful he’s now getting the tender loving care he deserves.

Upon his arrival, we immediately began administering Fletcher pain medication to ensure he stayed comfortable while undergoing treatment. His injuries are too severe to mend, so we believe amputation is the only way to give him the full, pain-free life he deserves. We are hopeful that once his injured leg is no longer inhibiting him and his upper respiratory infection has cleared, he’ll be able to run and play like a normal dog. Until then, we will give him all of the love and encouragement he’s been missing out on.

Your support makes it possible for us to provide animals like Fletcher with top-notch medical care. Our work doesn’t end here — more animals come through our doors in need of help every single day. Please donate today so that we can continue our lifesaving work for cats, dogs and horses in Kentucky. Right now, every gift made through August 16 will double up to $15,000 thanks to a generous anonymous donor. Donate today to support twice as many animals like Fletcher in their times of need.
