Mother/Daughter Duo Rescued
Miss Honey and Matilda recently arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center in heartbreaking condition. At just two-years-old, Miss Honey is alreadyseverely emaciated with a body score of 2 out of 9, weighing just 33 pounds when she should weigh at least 50. Despite her own suffering, Miss Honey’s maternal instincts led her to prioritize her two-month-old baby, Matilda. As a nursing mama, Miss Honey gave everything she had to her innocent pup, leaving her own body lethargic, malnourished and in desperate need of TLC.
Her puppy Matilda has a terrible injury on her back right leg. The open wound obliterated the soft tissue including the nerves and muscle of her right thigh leaving poor Matilda unable to bear weight or feel sensation in her leg. But Matilda’s mama stayed by her side, determined to protect her at all costs.

When the two arrived at KHS, they were in critical condition and needed immediate care in order to survive. While our veterinary team was cleaning and wrapping Matilda’s leg wounds, we heard the gut-wrenching screams of Miss Honey from down the hall. We rushed to comfort her, realizing the two had likely never been apart. Once Matilda’s injured leg was wrapped up and safe from the elements, we reunited her with her mama.
