Seven-Year-Old Cat with Birth Defect Gets Relief from Lifelong Pain

Imagine living your entire life with an eyelash stuck in your eye. Now imagine that irritation amplified because your eyelids cannot protect your eyes from dust, dirt and hair. That’s what seven-year-old Vernon has experienced since he was born.

Vernon's eye

Vernon is suffering from bilateral Entropion, a birth defect that causes the lower eyelids to roll inward. Entropion causes unimaginable pain and often leads to infections because it leaves the corneas vulnerable to scratches and tearing. Vernon is no exception to this rule and has lived his entire life fighting off infections. Day in and day out, he squints or closes his eyes to avoid feeling the never-ending scratching of his eyelashes rubbing his eyeball. It breaks our hearts to know that sweet Vernon has never painlessly seen the world. We are providing him with antibiotics to rid his body of infection and will perform surgery this week to repair his eyelids. Please keep Vernon in your thoughts as he prepares for surgery, and donate to support animals just like him when they come to our doors in desperate need of care.
