Gingy Update 1/2/2025

We’re pleased to share that Gingy, the French Bulldog we introduced you to earlier this week, has been safely transferred to the care of a trusted rescue partner – Proud Pups Rescue Inc. This decision wasn’t made lightly, but we firmly believe it is in Gingy’s best interest. Though she’s started making small improvements to her mobility, her recovery will likely be lengthy and could require months of rehabilitation. Thanks to Proud Pups, she’ll be able to continue healing in a loving foster home, away from the stress of shelter life.

We’re confident that the dedicated staff and fosters at Proud Pups will provide Gingy with top-notch care as she continues to recover, and are so grateful they welcomed her with open arms. THANK YOU to all who have supported this sweet girl through donations in her honor and words of encouragement. We couldn’t do this lifesaving work without people like you! Be sure to follow Proud Pups on Facebook for updates on Gingy’s journey.

Meet Gingy – 12/31/2025

Gingy arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center after being found abandoned and unable to move the back end of her body. Knowing time was of the essence, we immediately began treatment.
We believe that Gingy suffered a spinal cord compression, likely caused by blunt force trauma, which resulted in her inability to use her back legs. To make matters worse, an extremely large bladder stone was causing her even more pain. This poor baby could barely stand to urinate, leaving her no choice but to sit in her own urine and feces. We don’t know how long she had to live like that but knew it couldn’t go on any longer. We quickly prepped Gingy for surgery and removed the quarter-sized bladder stone, relieving some of her discomfort and starting her down a long road to recovery.

Since undergoing surgery, Gingy has slowly regained some movement in her back legs. She gets more bright and alert as days pass, and regularly seeks affection from staff, taking any chance she can get to dole out snorty kisses. She’s even found unique ways to cross the room to use the bathroom or get closer to her favorite people! This resilience shows us that Gingy is ready to power through what will prove to be a lengthy recovery.

We’ve promised Gingy that we won’t give up on her, and it seems she’s promised us the same. We’re exploring options for her ongoing recovery, including wheelchairs and rescues for disabled dogs, because her long-term success is our biggest priority. Whether her journey continues at KHS or somewhere new, we are grateful that we’ve been able to keep Gingy safe, comfortable and surrounded by love after all the trauma she’s endured.

Please donate in Gingy’s honor so we can continue to provide our community’s most vulnerable animals with lifesaving care. When you donate before midnight on 12/31, your gift will be TRIPLED thanks to a lifesaving $30,000 investment from the national nonprofit, Petco Love, making 3X the difference for the pets who need us most. Thank you for caring!
