We’re inching closer to the end of our Hay Bale Heroes campaign, and thanks to our friends at the Klein Family Foundation, all gifts made will be matched up to $5,000. That means your gift will double to support twice as many horses like Poppy, a former free-roaming feral horse who came to KHS in early January.
When Poppy arrived at Willow Hope Farm, it was clear that she needed some TLC. She was malnourished with her hips and ribs visible despite being in the late stages of pregnancy. Her foal was soaking up all of Poppy’s nutrients and energy while in utero, and poor Poppy needed some help regaining her weight and strength back. Thanks to the generosity of our 2024 Hay Bale Heroes, we had everything we needed to help this tired mama thrive. We gave her nutrient-dense hay and carefully crafted a plan to help her get healthy and comfortable before her baby arrived. Come late April, Poppy welcomed a healthy colt – whom we’ve named Basil.

Fast forward to today, and this sweet equine family is happy and healthy at Willow Hope Farm. We get the pleasure of watching them roam and run each day as Poppy teaches her son all about the big world we live in. Even more sweet, her herd-mates Gretchen, Stella and Nyx have stepped up to serve as “honorary aunties” to this sweet fella. It’s an honor to watch Basil grow each day, and it’s all possible thanks to supporters like you. Please consider donating towards our Hay Bale Heroes campaign today so that we can continue to be there for Kentucky horses in need. Your support means the world to us and to them!
